SAN MARCOS- Verena Sonstenes-Mahin of VS Dressage has joined Peridot Equestrian Center in San Marcos, California as a trainer.

Sonstenes-Mahin has achieved her Bronze, Silver and Gold medals, and continues to compete at all levels.

In 2011 she coached two riders who qualified for the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. Representing Puerto Rico, her students achieved one of the highest levels of competition in the Americas.

In 2013, Verena received a sponsorship from Beverly Gepfer of Rancho Santa Fe, California to train and ride her mount Ulliman.  She moved her business to San Marcos, California with her husband and successfully competed throughout 2014.  She also was chosen by the Utah Dressage Federation to train the next generation of young riders and clinics there regularly.

In 2018 Sonstenes-Mahin proudly coached Canadian Junior rider Chase Robertson to a Bronze and Gold medal at the NAJYC. “I love teaching the Juniors and Young Riders because they just have this ability ‘to do!’” Chase and Winsome were a new partnership at the beginning of the season and travel every year from Canada to train at VS Dressage.

Verena trains with three time Olympian Juan Matute when he clinics in California and has since the early 2000’s. She began working with him after she met him in Madrid, Spain while she was still based in Europe.

Verena also trains with Olympian Guenter Seidel on a regular basis in Rancho Santa Fe.

Verena also trains with Charlotte Dujardin, both partaking in SH Productions Symposium in October 2016 and training with Dujardin privately whenever she is in California.

Verena loves teaching and regularly clinics all over the US, Puerto Rico and Canada. VS Dressage is a full service top-sport company that provides training through Grand Prix, clinics, purchase consultation and complete sales services.

“Verena's riding and training style and philosophy is the perfect fit for our new facility and program at Peridot Equestrian, and we are so excited to have her here now riding and training client and sale horses daily,” said Jessica Eaves Mathews, Vice President and Farm Manager of Peridot.
